The EQ tab has ten faders, one per band. Under them are presets you can tap to jump to a starting curve: FLAT, HIP-HOP, VOCAL, HI-RES and NIGHT. Move any fader yourself and the label changes to CUSTOM.
What the presets do
- FLAT sets every band to zero. It's the honest baseline.
- HIP-HOP is the default. It pushes the low end up by as much as 7 dB and gives the top a gentle lift.
- VOCAL lifts the middle bands, by up to 4 dB, and trims the lowest bands slightly.
- HI-RES leans toward the high bands, up to 4 dB, for a brighter sound.
- NIGHT pulls both ends down and nudges the mids up, which suits quiet late listening.
Bypass
Switch the EQ off and the display reads BYPASS. Flip it on and off while a track plays and you'll hear exactly what it's doing, which is the best way to decide whether you like your settings.
What it's built on
The EQ uses your phone's built-in audio effects. That keeps it light, and it also means results can vary a bit from one phone to another. We wouldn't pitch it as a studio processor, and we don't. It's a good, simple tone control.
For the finishing touches, the tape effects switches add a treble lift and optional hiss.
